Thursday 10 12 17 morning call

Two lovely SUP foiling sessions for me yesterday. the conditions on the south shore have been delightful and I'm practicing as much as I can in view of the upcoming downwinding opportunities. Here's two members of the foiling crew playing catch up. Photo by Jason Hall.

Here's a video by Brett Lickle showing Austin Kalana doing air flips on the foil.

The windsurfers hit the windswell at Hookipa in the afternoon. Photo by Jimmie Hepp from this gallery.

3-4am significant buoy readings.
South shore
W
1.8ft @ 13s from 153° (SSE)

SW
2.2ft @ 13s from 177° (S)

SE
2.3ft @ 12s from 154° (SSE)

The period is down to 12-13s but still a couple of feet of southerly energy at the outer buoys. Stay tuned for a beach report later, I'm gonna guess waist high today. The wind conditions should be favorable again.

North shore
Pauwela
3.6ft @ 8s from 72° (ENE)
1.2ft @ 11s from 351° (N)

Mostly windswell at Pauwela again. A strong increase is predicted by Surfline for tomorrow at 2pm at 9f 8s from 83 degrees.

Wind map at noon shows easterly light trades. There was some wind at Maalaea yesterday, so the model wasn't 100%  correct, but it wasn't too strong and it didn't get to the Ukumehame area. So, there was some truth in it. Today it should be similar.

North Pacific shows that the big low has moved over the Aleutians as predicted, so there's only a windswell fetch today.

Just a very weak southerly fetch in the South Pacific, that shouldn't do much for us.

Morning sky shows many cells of clouds and they all seem to be getting bigger.

As a matter of fact, there's some rain on the east side of the island. Radar image at 4.55am.
